Welcome to EYFS
Reception – Autumn Term 1 Newsletter
Welcome back after the summer holidays. I hope you all had a lovely summer and were able to catch up with loved ones. It was lovely to see the children looking so smart and excited on Monday morning. The beginning of their school journey is always so exciting. I was impressed with the way that the children came back to school.
All About Me: This half term our topic is All About Me. In Reception we learn through the use of good quality texts to ignite the childrens love of reading. We will be using The Colour Monster, Avocado Baby and We are Family. We will learn about our feelings, how we grow and the importance of our family.
Curriculum: We will continue to learn through play-based activities. Children are challenged by interactions with staff and the use of effective questioning. Children have access to a variety of resources, for example, sand, water, construction and role play to allow them to develop their imagination independently.
New EYFS Framework: This year a new EYFS framework has been introduced which shows how the children will be learning and the end of year Early Learning Goals (please see attached sheet).
Phonics: We are introducing a new phonics scheme called Little Wandle. I will be sending home further information about this. We will have a daily phonics lesson and 3 reading sessions each week.
Reading: Please remember that we expect every child to read 4 times each week at home. This is essential for a child’s development and to help them become life-long readers. Reading books must be brought into school daily in a reading folder in order for your child to read at school. Please purchase a reading folder from the school office for £5. This ensures that our reading books remain in good condition.
PE: This half term we are lucky to have a PE specialist coming into school to teach us some new skills. Our PE lesson will be on a Monday afternoon. Please send PE kits in in preparation. Please label all items clearly.
Milk and Fruit: Milk and fruit is provided daily to all children. You may also send in a drink but remember water only!
School dinners: Your child is entitled to a free school dinner. The menu choice is very good and I am sure there will always be something your child will enjoy. They might surprise you.
Tapestry: This year I will continue to use Tapestry as an important form of communication. I will send out a letter in order for you to add any e-mail updates. I will then set it up to enable you to have access. It is essential that you can access this because I add important messages on there. I also add a weekly overview so you can see what your child has been doing at school.
