Welcome to Fir Tree
Welcome back to a new term, although it is unlike any we have experienced before. May I firstly take this opportunity to thank families for all their efforts in supporting each other with home learning and sharing your successes! It is lovely to see, especially when children connect with each other.
For those families who have expressed interest in receiving hard copies of daily work packs; these will be posted shortly. In addition, the new Family Learning activities, designed specifically for families with multiple children, have been reviewed, adapted or expanded to support the needs of your deaf son. Check back in each week to find out the next topic!
At the start of each project, II will send an email with links, attachments and BSL explanations to ensure you are able to access the work. Should you need any further support, please do get in touch via email.
Again, thank you for all you are doing. Stay healthy and happy,
*Coronavirus Update: March 2020*
In light of the increasing spread of coronavirus, we have provided Home School Learning Packs for children. These have been designed to give guidance for parents to support teaching and learning at home. Our aim is to continue to provide ALL children with activities to minimize the disruption to learning during these uncertain times.
Please also remember the value of play; physical, outdoor, creative and imaginary. Playing alongside your child with positive interactions and communication is teaching and learning! Children should also be encouraged to spend time outside for a short time every day, this could include a family walk or activities from the Sport Bingo.
We thank you for your support and understanding during this very unsettling period.
A big hello from Fir Class! We are a happy bunch made up of Mrs Hayes (ToD), Mrs Spence and Ms Carlyle (Specialist TAs). This page is where updated information can be found each half term; topics, books, spellings and letters. Also, don’t forget the Twitter feed @FirbeckPrimary is a great place to see what children are up to across the school.
- Our topic throughout Spring 2 is linked with the mainstream themes of Woodland Creatures, Pollution and Enchanted Forests.
- In English, we will be looking at giving clear and well sequenced instructions. To do this, we will look at the correct procedure to wash our hands, make a sandwich and create a bird feeder. As last term, we will continue to use Rainbow Grammar to improve and correctly order our written sentences.
- In Maths, we will extend our understanding on numbers to 100, and begin to multiply and divide.
- Please see letters sent by mainstream teachers as to their activities in the afternoons.
As a reminder, children must line up on the playground from 8.45. Morning break will be from 10:20-10:35, so please can you either provide your child with a healthy mid-morning snack or money for toast and/or drink if they are in Key Stage 2.
Every member of Fir Class is expected to read with an adult, five times a week minimum. The benefits to reading regularly are far-reaching and your support with this is invaluable. In addition, each child receives personalised weekly spellings. These are tested and refreshed on Mondays. Again, your support in practicing these is incredibly beneficial.
Fir Class follow the same behaviour management system as the mainstream - children start each new day as a 'Perfect Day' and work towards becoming a 'VIP'. Should incidents arise at school, staff will contact parents either by telephone, or face-to-face at the end of the day. Every day is a new day in Fir Class!
Please ensure that your child's planner is checked and filled in regularly. It needs to be in school every day. Also, please sign the Home/School agreement.
Any further questions?
If you have any further questions or worries, please do not hesitate to contact me. You can catch me at the end of the day face-to-face or arrange a time if you would like to have a more detailed chat about something.
