~ January 2024 ~

What an amazing start we have had to the Spring term. It has been wonderful to see such positive attitudes to learning across the school.

You will notice from the who’s who information below that Firbeck now has an Executive Headteacher. Mrs Smith will be based at Firbeck full-time and will be leading the strategic direction for the school.

Unfortunately, Miss Cao continues to be absent due to illness.

As many of you are aware Mrs Bayliss left at the end of last term. The school now has Miss Stimson, as the Assistant Headteacher.

Research has shown the positive impact attending school has on a child’s social and emotional development, as well as their academic achievement. As Parents/Carers it is your responsibility to ensure your child attends school each day unless they are unwell.  Don’t forget you can still send your child to school when they have a cold.

If your child needs some medicine during the day you can complete a consent form in order for us to administer this or we are more than happy for you to come into school to administer it to them.

Please note that the main gates open at 8.40am.  Registration at the start of the day begins at 8.45am. This means all children should be in their class by this time.

If your child arrives after the pedestrian gate has closed (8.55am) this means they are late and have already missed 10 minutes of learning time. This adds up to a lot of lost learning if your child is late every day.

Parents/Carers are required to inform school if their child is going to be absent, please ensure you do this as soon as possible either by calling (0115 915 5739) or emailing (admin@firbeck.org.uk) the school office.

On our website you will see what our uniform expectations, including footwear, are at Firbeck.

Uniform and Equipment

Please do come and speak to us if you need support with ensuring your child has the correct uniform.

School dinners at Firbeck are provided by Aspen's Catering Company.

Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to free school meals as part of the Universal Infant Free School Meal Programme.

Children in Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 must pay for school meals.

If you child attends Nursery for the whole day and you would like them to have a school meal please speak with the school office.

Meals are charged at £2.60 per day and must be paid for in advance either by cash or bank transfer.

If you are a low income family and in receipt of any of the below benefits you may be entitled to claim Free School Meals:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
  • Employment and Support Allowance (Income Related)
  • Guarantee element of Pension Credit
  • Support under section 95 of the Immigration & Asylum Act 1999
  • Universal Credit with an annual net earned of £7400 or below

If you would like further information regarding Free School Meals, or to make an application please contact the school office or pupil.benefits@nottinghamcity.gov.uk

Over the next few months we will be starting to introduce a new Parents App, this will enable much more effective communication between school and home.  Allowing parents to use the App to view communications, consent for clubs and trips and make payments for lunches etc.

While this will be introduced gradually between Easter and September we are aiming to be a cashless school by September 2024.

In order to help this roll out run smoothly please ensure your contact telephone numbers and email addresses are up to date with the school office so we can ensure you get up to date information and invitations to join the new system.

Further communications regarding this will be sent out in due course, please look out for these and contact the school office if you require any assistance.
